Off grid living isn’t about being anti-gov or anarchist, or bucking the system. It’s about freedom and independence, self reliance and survival of our ways, our culture and our lifestyle. The old timers knew things, ways to live that we are forgetting. That knowledge must be preserved for future generations, our children, their children and this is why we do what we do.
It’s not just a lifestyle choice, it’s a way of life, a way of living life to its fullest, independent and free from what society deems the status quo. Out here we don’t care about your fancy cars, giant McMansions, and $10k suits.
We care our our neighbors, our fellow human beings, our people. Fellow off grid homesteaders who know the old ways and can survive and even thrive. It’s about many things, but I think it comes down to one thing. Self reliance, and that means freedom. It’s what humans have sought after all these years. For thousands of years we’ve fought for our freedoms and our way of life. There’s nothing wrong with living in harmony with nature.
In fact, most people should try it some time. You don’t have to be a hippie or a redneck, a farmer or a rancher, a businessman or a mechanic, a construction worker or a bus driver to understand, we’re all human. Regardless of ethnicity, nationality, religion, or none, an appreciation for nature and the sustenance it can provide our families. We’re hard working folks. We’re not better or worse than anyone else.
We’re all born equal under the sun. Our choice is our freedom and we choose to live our lives off the grid, free from the confines of a system that would work us until we drop. A system of hustle and bustle and craziness our founding fathers and ancestors could never have predicted. The old ways are being forgotten and we need to preserve them for future generations.
Our children need these skills. Not just for an appreciation of them and how much easier life is now than it was 200 years ago. But to pass down this knowledge through the generations to that we never forget our roots and how we got here.
We are survivors, pioneers, gardeners, ranchers, farmers, workers of every blue collar profession, white collar folks who had enough of the system, and want a simpler more connected life, closer to nature, our home. We’re born of earth an we leave it the same way, being consumed by it.
We’re part of nature, not above it, we can live in harmony with it, and still not only survive, but thrive. These skills and this knowledge is vital to humanity. Vital to us and human beings.
Help one another, build a better world. Off grid.
