Here’s a cool little solar powered off grid cabin tiny house. Very nice setup and has all the comforts of home, plus some. This is all your really need anywhere. Some folks might even say this is pure luxury compared to some of the more rustic log cabins in the wilderness out there. This cute little tiny cabin is perfect for the glampers out there who love their comforts but at a bare minimum. If that makes sense.
Very good use of space in such a small footprint. The whole cabin itself is only 12×16, so doing the quick math is only 192 square feet of living space (not including the bathroom shed out back). The bathroom shed out back features a small shower with a 5 gallon DC powered water heater that is just enough to take a nice hot shower. The bathroom also features a composting toilet, which most of us would need for our own off grid cabins.
Author’s Note: I personally like how he separated the bathroom from the main cabin living space. Not too far to walk (just a few steps) outside and you’re there. No having to walk 50 yards through snow in the winter to an outhouse. That’s no fun.
The cabin is heated in winter by a propane heater and 2 7 gallon 30 pound tanks, with an extra 7 gallon tank for backup heat. It runs on both a 150Watt solar panel system with a 2 battery backup, but also a supplemental 2200 Watt gas power Honda generator which can run in eco-mode for about 9 hours on a gallon of gas, which considering the price of gas nowadays is not bad.

This is one of the more well thought out cabins I’ve seen. However there are some drawbacks which I will list below.
Author’s Note: This is purely my personal opinion, so take what I say here with a grain of salt and personal preference. Though the cabin is technically “off-grid” as defined by what off grid really means. I don’t think this cabin is “self reliant” from a power and heating standpoint with only 150Watts of solar panels and the reliance on propane and gas for the generator to power the lights and the propane for the heater. I think there’s too much reliance being made on propane and gas, so this would likely not be a good “survival cabin“, by definition simply because it relies too much on fossil fuels, which in a survival scenario is not ideal. There was no wood stove that I saw in the video, though I could have missed it, if I did I apologize for the oversight. But no wood stove in a survival situation (say a blizzard and you run out of electricity or something goes wrong with your solar/battery/generator power system) that puts you in a situation that is not ideal. Also, I don’t know how far away from help this cabin is, where the closest neighbors are (which are his parents I think he said in the video) which might be a good thing. Is this “sustainable”…? No. Not with the reliance on fossil fuels (propane and gas) Is it a survival cabin? No. Not so much. Could you make it work? Sure. Just get a wood stove and add more solar panels and batteries, a high-end charge controller and inverter. For a glamping cabin, yes! It’s wonderful!
Overall I really like the cabin. It’s nice. It’s something I’d be very comfortable in and I think most folks would agree with that assessment.
