18 Year Old Builds Off Grid Cabin Using Hand Tools

18 Year Old Builds Off Grid Cabin Using Hand Tool In Swedish Wilderness using hand tools! This cabin build is one of the most amazing log cabin builds I’ve seen yet. Erik Grankvist shows us how to build a log cabin using old Swedish style techniques and he did it with hand tools.

This is an amazing feat and a lot of very hard work. He starts with clearing an area and building up the foundation, then starts cutting the trees, delimbing, and stripping the bark from the trees. Once her has enough logs to start building, he proceeds to raise and stack the logs, cutting saddle notches and stacking the logs atop one another.

After each log he uses moss he gathers from around the area as chinking material and then lowers the notched log atop the lower log on top of the moss sealing the cabin and closing the gaps between the logs.

He also builds a log ramp with hand built notches to stop the logs from rolling back down, and using a rope looped around the logs as  a pully system to raise the logs into place. He build his own scaffolding to reach each successive higher level and continues this same process over and over again until the walls are at the proper height.

Built In Root Cellar

He even build an underground root cellar UNDER the cabin itself to store food and for prepping. It really is a very nicely built cabin! He did a great job!

Watch the video below to see him in action.

This is an inspiring cabin build and makes me want to get out there and build my own cabin right now.
